Transforming a Delhi, Ohio Residential Landscape: A Project Overview
Introduction:
Every homeowner dreams of having a front yard that not only enhances the curb appeal but also reflects their personal style. With this Delhi, Ohio residential project, we had the opportunity to completely revamp the existing landscape, removing outdated elements and introducing new features to create a stunning and functional outdoor space. In this blog post, we will delve into the details of this transformative project, highlighting the key changes and additions made to the front yard.
Clearing the Canvas:
- The first step of the project involved a comprehensive removal of all existing plant material in the front of the residence. This blank slate allowed us to start with a fresh canvas, enabling us to design and implement a brand-new landscape design.
Lighting and Irrigation:
- The low voltage landscape lighting was carefully removed and set aside until the completion of the project. Additionally, drip irrigation lines running throughout the landscape were partially removed by the homeowner prior to our services commencing. These preparations ensured a seamless transition and facilitated the installation of new lighting and irrigation systems later in the project.
Reimagining the Landscape:
- To create a cohesive and visually appealing front yard, decorative boulders scattered throughout the landscape were temporarily removed and set aside until the completion of the project. The removal of old stone walls was also necessary, and the material was responsibly hauled away and disposed of offsite.
Bed Redesign:
- One significant change involved the landscape bed along the southeast side of the house. This bed area was drastically shrunk down, and a small border of Brassfield limestone was installed to create a clean bed contour. This alteration not only improved the overall aesthetics but also made it easier for the homeowner to maintain the area by mowing the grass.
Introducing Natural Limestone Walls:
- One of the standout features of the Delhi, Ohio residential project was the installation of new natural limestone walls in the front yard. These walls served both functional and decorative purposes. Two of the walls were designed to retain soil, while the remaining walls were used as outcropping decorative elements. Split natural stone of varying lengths and thicknesses was utilized, giving the walls a visually appealing and organic appearance. It’s important to note that the final layout of the walls may have deviated slightly from the initial drawing to ensure the best possible fit and visual harmony.
Enhancing Drainage:
- To address water drainage concerns, corrugated perforated pipes were installed behind the two retaining walls. This drainage system would help manage water flow and prevent any potential issues caused by excessive moisture accumulation.
Sidewalk Enhancement:
- As part of the project, a soldier course of Unilock Hollandstone in a charcoal color was installed along the existing front sidewalk. This addition not only widened the pathway slightly but also provided a more visually appealing and cohesive look to the front yard.
Let’s take a closer look at the plant materials installed in the front yard, precisely as depicted in the drawing.
- Variegated Liriope: A total of 16 Variegated Liriope plants were carefully selected and strategically transplanted or added to enhance the front yard’s visual appeal. These elegant plants boast vibrant variegated foliage, adding a touch of elegance and color to the landscape.
- Graham Blandy Boxwood: One majestic Graham Blandy Boxwood, standing at an impressive 30 inches, serves as a focal point in the front yard. This carefully chosen specimen brings structure and formality to the overall design.
